Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki will play in the NBA All-Star game as a reserve.

Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki will represent the Western Conference as a reserve in NBA All-Star Game, the league announced Thursday night.

Nowitzki will appear in his ninth consecutive All-Star Game, more than any other player in Mavericks franchise history.

“It is an honor to represent the Mavericks in my new hometown of Dallas,” Nowitzki said. “I am always thankful for the opportunity to play in the All-Star Game. We hope to put on a good show for our fans.”

In 44 games, Nowitzki is averaging a team-high 25.2 points to go with 7.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.2 blocks and 37.9 minutes. The 11-year NBA veteran has led Dallas to a Southwest Division-leading 30-15 through the first half of the season.

The 59th All-Star game will be played at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. Many of the event surrounding the game will take place in Dallas, including the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge and All-Star Saturday Night at American Airlines Center.
