Johnny Archer anchors NBC 5 News weekend evenings, Saturday at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. and also reports. He joined the NBC 5 News team in May 2014.
Before coming to North Texas, Johnny was a reporter at WHAS-TV in Louisville, Kentucky, where he was the weekend anchor and a weekday reporter. His career has taken him to many places around the United States like Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Kentucky, Indiana and now Texas.
He has covered a variety of stories from icy road conditions and floods to the deadly March 2, 2012 tornadoes in Indiana.
He has also done work as an investigative reporter looking into why families were allowed to live in deplorable conditions as well as the effect of abandoned homes on a Louisville neighborhood.
He's also reported on the Kentucky Derby and flown with the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels.
Johnny is a Temple University graduate and originally from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area.
He believes journalism is not just a career, but also a way of life and a civic responsibility. He has a passion for education and tries to use his role in the community to inspire kids to achieve their dreams.
In Johnny’s spare time he enjoys exercising, watching stand-up comedy and Formula One motor racing.
