A fired Northeast Texas police officer who injected his wife with animal-euthanizing drugs has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The Texarkana Gazette reports ex-Hooks police Sgt. David Horn pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated assault with serious bodily injury and family violence involving a weapon. Horn also pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and threatening with a deadly weapon in last October's attack at the couple's home.

Misty Horn was found by her daughter, Alicia Stivers, who was at the residence with Brandon Brown. Investigators say Horn pointed a gun at Brown as he tried to stop the syringe attack.

Authorities say Horn had access to the drugs in his role as a Hooks animal control officer.

He was fired after being arrested. Misty Horn later divorced her spouse.
