Investigators say two bodies discovered in a rural North Texas home initially labeled suspicious are homicides.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office said the bodies of a male and a female were found Wednesday afternoon by deputies making a welfare check.

Lt. Tim Jones said deputies entered the home near Godley, about 25 miles southwest of Fort Worth, after not being able to reach anyone inside.

Inside the found the two victims, 62-year-old Duane Arland Benson and 61-year-old Breanda Scheets Benson, dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

The sheriff's department said Thursday the Benson's deaths are being investigated as a double homicide.

Investigators described the case as "tragic" and asked anyone with information to contact the law enforcement agency.

Further details were not immediately available.
