Two Dallas police officers killed in the line of duty received special honor Tuesday morning when a group of law enforcement officers from across the state of Texas stopped in Dallas while on a 2000-mile memorial bicycle ride.

"It's a way for officers to show respect and honor the memory of officers killed in the line of duty throughout the state," said Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle.

The "Memorial Trek Across Texas" will stop in 14 cities across the state where officers have been killed in the past year.

“It’s a very visible thing,” said Paul Worley, director of the San Antonio Police Chaplains. “We hope that people look and at the very least ask, 'What are those people doing, and why are they here?'"

Since Feb. 2008, the Dallas Police Department has lost two officers --  Sr. Cpl. Victor Lozada and Sr. Cpl. Norman Smith.

“It encourages me through my grief to know that my husband and Victor’s sacrifice will never be forgotten,” Dallas Police Lieutenant and widow Regina Smith said.

The memorial riders presented the department with a wreath to honor the two fallen officers.

Their ride will end Monday in Austin, where they will attend the Fallen Officers’ Memorial at the State Capitol.
