Chuck Norris was born Carlos Ray Norris in Ryan, Oklahoma, you can call him Carlos at your own risk.

Kids attending Dan F. Long Middle School, part of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District, better pay attention during Thursday’s special assembly.

Renowned tough guy Chuck Norris makes an appearance at the school at 7 p.m., Dec. 2, to recognize students who kicked in to win this year’s regional Kickathon, a fundraiser to support Kickstart Kids, the nonprofit organization Chuck Norris founded to keep kids out of gangs, off drugs, and in school.

Long Middle School students took on their peers in schools representing the Dallas, Irving, and Lancaster districts, and the Long kids, 124 of them, took the title by raising more than $2,000 for the Kickstart program, which really should be called the Kickbutt Kids program, shouldn’t it?

So good for the kids of Long Middle School, and kudos to Chuck Norris — it’s kind of like “Charlie Brown” isn’t it; you have to say both names — for starting the program.

Chuck Norris does not lay a roundhouse-kick whuppin' on gangs and drugs. Gangs and drugs ask for Chuck Norris to lay a roundhouse kick on them, and they say “please.”

Bruce Felps owns and operates East Dallas Times, an online community news outlet serving the White Rock Lake area. He apologizes for the bad "Chuck Norris does not ...." jokes, if you can call them that.
