Wednesday afternoon the Rockwall Independent School District will conduct a full-scale school shooting emergency drill at Utley Middle School.
Public safety departments and more than 50 Rockwall County first responders will be involved in the emergency exercise from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The drill is being held on an early release day for Rockwall ISD, only volunteers will participate in the drill which involves "an active shooter inside the school" scenario.
The Rockwall County Office of Emergency Management is coordinating the exercise in order to evaluate the countywide emergency response plan. Rockwall ISD and Presbyterian Hospital of Rockwall will also be able to evaluate their internal response plans to this type of event.
Rockwall ISD is notifying the public about the event because residents are sure to notice a large number of police cars and fire trucks as well as air and ground ambulances in the area around Utley Middle School.
All residents are asked to remember that this is only a simulated training exercise.
The joint exercise will include the Cities of Rockwall, Heath, Royse City, and Fate; the Rockwall ISD, Rockwall County EMS, Rockwall County, and Presbyterian Hospital of Rockwall.
