Several North Texas cities will ground spray for mosquitoes after trapped mosquitoes tested positive for West Nile virus.
The Dallas County health department found mosquitoes in 17 pools tested positive for the virus in Highland Park, DeSoto, Grand Prairie and Cockrell Hill. Mosquitoes in Duncanville, Grapevine and Denton have also tested positive.
Highland Park will conduct ground spraying for mosquitoes on Thursday, Friday and Sunday nights starting at 10 p.m.
Mosquitoes in two traps in DeSoto have tested positive for West Nile virus. Dallas County will spray in the Summerside and Moss Lake neighborhoods on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.
Four areas in Grand Prairie will be sprayed Thursday and Friday nights beginning at 10 p.m. after four West Nile virus-positive mosquito samples were reported.
All of Cockrell Hill will be sprayed on Thursday and Saturday nights beginning at 10 p.m.
Duncanville will spray from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights after West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes were trapped in 75116 zip code.

In Grapevine, two mosquito samples in the 300 block of Dallas Road and the 1500 block of Dooley Street tested positive for West Nile virus. Areas within a half-mile radius of those blocks will be sprayed Thursday night beginning at 10 p.m.

Highland Park Asks Residents to Be Vigilant
In Highland Park, a pool on Beverly Drive, on the east part of town near the Katy Trail tested positive.
"The only thing I can say is we're getting into bulk of mosquito season here, probably related to the recent rainfall," city spokesman Lance Koppa said.
Residents received an email blast with an alert to watch out for pools of standing water in which mosquitoes can breed.
Only 20 percent of the Highland Park is public property, so homeowners must be vigilant, Koppa said.
"There has been an increase in folks calling us, and we welcome those phone calls because it's important we get out and inspect those areas that we may not be seeing," Koppa said.

Highland Park also will provide a free backyard inspections for people who want their property checked for mosquito breeding grounds.
