Kelley Gulledge had three hits and two runs batted in as the Cats defeated Wichita 5-2 on Sunday night at LaGrave Field.
The win was the third in a row against Wichita and fourth in a row overall for the Cats who see their record improve to 13-3 on the year.
Wichita took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Greg Porter singled home Nick Blasi, but the Cats rallied in the second to score three runs.
In the second inning with two men on, Kelley Gulledge hit a ground-rule double to right-center field, scoring one to tie the game. The next batter, Aljay Davis, lifted a sacrifice fly to center to give the Cats a 2-1 lead. Later in the inning, Isa Garcia contributed a sacrifice fly to make it 3-1 Fort Worth.
The Cats would add a run in the third on a Gulledge sac fly and another run in the fifth on a Davis run-scoring single. Davis also finished the game with two runs batted in.
Wichita would score again in the seventh inning as a Brenan Herrera RBI grounder brought home Josh Horn, but that would be as close as the Wingnuts would get.
New Cats' reliever Tyler Pearson came on in the eighth inning and allowed a base runner before getting a 1-6-3 double play to end the inning. He struck out the side in the ninth for a save in his Fort Worth debut.
Ryan Riddle (1-1) notched his first victory of the season as he allowed just a run on six hits in six innings pitched. Adam Cowart suffered his first loss for Wichita as he gave up four runs, two earned on six hits over four innings.
The Cats head to Grand Prairie for a three-game series beginning on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. Lee Gwaltney (3-0) goes for the Cats in the opener.
