High School Student Killed in Mesquite Party Shooting

A Mesquite High School sophomore was killed after being shot in the head at a party, police said.[[299536281,C]]

A fight broke out at a large party in the 2100 block of Catskill Drive in Mesquite at about 10 p.m. Saturday, police said. The altercation ended in gunfire.

Officers arrived on the scene across the street from West Mesquite High School and found Elliott suffering from a gunshot wound among the large crowd attending the party.

Charles Elliott, 18, was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his head, Mesquite Police Department spokesman Brian Parrish said in a statement. Elliott later died from his wounds.

Police said they are currently investigating the details surrounding the shooting. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
