Hot Deals Snapped Up From Sneaky Store

Hot Deals Snapped Up From Sneaky Store

You could call it one of the best kept secrets in Dallas. In fact, it's so secret it's only open on Thursday between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and there is a rush to get in the door. We are talking about the Dallas City Store, where you can get deep discounts on "hot" merchandise.

"We have a lot of high-end cameras, anything that can be stolen," said Michael Frosh with the city of Dallas. Most of the merchandise comes from the Dallas police property room.

"It's just to see what they have confiscated, what the city wants to get rid of," said J.C. Marier, bargain hunter. "That is what the excitement's all about."

The store at 3131 Irving Boulevard is open just once a week and shoppers are eager to get a great deal on some big ticket items.

"We have some Gibson guitars," said Frosh."It's (one of the guitars) $2,400, but it's about a $5,000 guitar."

New inventory comes in every week and the revenue goes to help the city's bottom line.

"Over the last 3 years, the average for our operations in the store is around $200,000 a year," said Frosh. "We have the auction associated with it which is about $1.2 million total."

Some of the more usable items are transferred to other city departments and what doesn't sell at the store goes up for auction on eBay.

While there is no haggling, regular shoppers recommend you snap up whatever you see because some things go very fast.

"If you're thinking about buying it, grab it, because if you put it down somebody else is going to take it from you," said Marier.
