Teens Cut From Team After Chicken Sacrifice

Benbrook police are looking into allegations that two high school baseball players sacrificed chickens to improve their team.

Officials with Western Hills High School in the Fort Worth Independent School District said the boys have been kicked off the team.

Police said the 15- and 16-year-old students admitted to decapitated two baby chickens on the students' home field.

Fort Worth ISD spokesman Clint Bond said the incident happened during spring break. He declined to say how the two students were punished.

Baseball coach Bobby McIntire said he has not had a chance to talk to the students about why they did it.

He told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that "baseball is very superstitious" and the idea possibly came from movies. But even in movies, when there was talk of chicken sacrifice, KFC was used instead of live animals a la "Major League."

Western Hills now sports a 7-15 record. On Wednesday, Western Hills beat Southwest High School 11-1. Hmm.

The teenagers face felony animal cruelty charges.
