Authorities say the mayor of a South Texas city has been arrested on multiple drug charges.
Refugio County Sheriff Robert Bolcik told the Victoria Advocate that Refugio Mayor Joey Heard was taken into custody on charges that include felony possession of a prohibited substance.
Bolcik said Heard posted bond Saturday after being arrested a day earlier.
The city's police chief, Andy Lopez Jr., confirmed the arrest but declined further comment.
A woman who answered the phone at a listing for Heard did not wish to comment.
Heard was elected mayor in 2013 and re-elected in May.
