George HW Bush Salutes Temple's Work as Actor, Ambassador

Former President George H.W. Bush is saluting Shirley Temple not just for her acting work, but for her service as an ambassador to the Czech Republic.

Bush appointed Temple ambassador to the Eastern European country, where she served from 1989 to 1992.

Temple died Monday night at 85.

Bush said in a statement Tuesday that he and his wife, Barbara, mourned Temple's death and lauded her lifetime accomplishments.

He says that in both acting and as an ambassador, Temple "truly lifted people up and earned not only a place in our hearts -- but also our enduring respect."
