Former Dallas police chief Terrell Bolton is out of a job.
CEO Burrell Ellis fired Bolton as police chief of Dekalb County, Georgia.
Earlier this month, Bolton was placed on administrative leave from his job as chief.
County officials said they were reviewing Chief Bolton's use of time off.
Bolton was recently hospitalized in Dallas after being diagnosed with diabetes.
The Atlanta-Constitution Journal reported Bolton's lawyer sent a letter to county leaders warning that firing the chief could violate federal law because the chief is on medical leave.
DeKalb county hired Chief Bolton in 2006.
