The year 2017 will be big for development along the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard.
In Rowlett, work is underway on the $1 billion Bayside resort, complete with its Crystal Lagoon, a beach-style water park and Bellagio-like fountains.
The building site, along the southernmost tip of the Rowlett peninsula into Lake Ray Hubbard, has already been cleared. Construction of the hotel and other facilities is slated to begin in the spring, and is expected to take between 24 and 36 months.
In Rockwall, the Harbor development was recently purchased.
Rockwall Harbor is a 130,000 square foot retail, restaurant and entertainment district along the shore of the lake.
The Harbor had been in bankruptcy, and had an uncertain future.
βIt did go through some change in ownership, and any time you have a change in ownership there may be some questions as to how it is going to be developed and what itβs going to look like,β said Dana Macalik, President of the Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce. βBut I donβt think the leadership of our community ever changed [its hope for the project].β

Macalik noted that both pieces of business news could mean big things for the future.
