Amid Big Development, Prosper Lives Up To Its Name

380 expansion, and many major developments are underway

The town of Prosper is living up to its name in recent years, with many hundreds of millions of dollars being spent in development and expansion of infrastructure.

Texas 380, the primary east-west route between McKinney and Denton, runs right through Prosper.

The road is viewed as an “economic corridor” by city leaders, who say long-term investments to fund and install water, sewer and utility lines along Texas 380 are beginning to pay off.

Not long ago, Texas 380 was a two-lane road. It has since been expanded to four lanes and will eventually reach six lanes across.

In addition, the Dallas North Tollway will have lanes added as well as a large interchange where it currently ends at the intersection with Texas 380 in Prosper.

The expansion is to accommodate significant growth in and around the community that has approximately doubled its population within the last decade.

As a result, several large-scale business developments are under construction. They include the $1 Billion Gates of Prosper, being developed by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, at Texas 380 and the Dallas North Tollway.

Farther west, all four corners of the intersection of Texas 380 and Farm-to-Market Road 423 are being transformed.

Developments on the south side of Texas 380 are in the city of Frisco, and renderings of what’s to come appear to include plans for a Wal-Mart and an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.

The northeast corner of Texas 380 and FM 423 in Prosper will be called the Windsong Ranch Marketplace, and will include a Kroger — the second Kroger and grocery store by any name — a Panera Bread, Chic-fil-A and other fast-casual dining options.

“Prosper is a commuter community, for the most part,” Mayor Ray Smith noted in a March 2015 news release. “But just because people commute to their jobs does not mean that they want to commute for their medical needs, grocery and retail shopping, dining, entertainment and so forth."
