Allen Third Grader Saves Dad's Life

An Allen third grader is being hailed a life saver after a quick thinking call to 911.

Jordan Escobedo, 8, was home with his father, David, and younger sister, Katie, in March when he found his father collapsed and choking.

Jordan first tried calling his mother, his aunt and his uncle, but couldn't reach an adult. So he decided to call 911.

David Escobedo said he woke up hours later in the hospital with no memory of what happened. When he asked where his children were, he heard the story of how Jordan had stayed calm on the phone with Allen dispatch until help arrived.

"I still get tears just thinking about it," David Escobedo said. "My son, he saved my life! That's something I'll have forever."

Jordan has since received a lifesaving award from the Allen Fire Department, along with a medal crediting him as an "every day hero". He said the attention is nice, but the happiest part is having his dad still at home.

"I'm happy because I saved my dad," he said, pointing to his Superman T-shirt. "It's a symbol that I did something great — that I feel like I'm a superhero."

The Escobedo family had just given Jordan his own cellphone a few weeks before the incident. His parents said they were originally worried he wasn't ready for the responsibility of having a phone, but are grateful that Jordan proved them all wrong.
