Accused Teacher's Husband to Tell His Side

The husband of a high school teacher accused of having sex with five students will make a statement Thursday, the couple's attorney said Wednesday.

Brittni Colleps, 27, was arrested Monday on five counts of having an inappropriate relationship between a student and teacher, a second-degree felony.

Arlington police said investigators found explicit text messages and cellphone video of Colleps, a Kennedale High School English teacher, having sex with a student.

Colleps declined to comment on her arrest after she was released on bond Monday afternoon.

Despite the ordeal, the Collepses are doing well, said Lex Johnston, the couple's attorney.

"Brittni is holding up very well," he said. "This is a nerve-racking, very stressful time for the entire family -- I'm sure for all the families -- but she is doing well."

Colleps' husband plans to keep his family together.

"Her husband was stationed in the Army at Fort Polk, La.," Johnston said. "He is with her. He is standing by her side."

Arlington police removed several items from the couple's home while executing a search warrant.

Colleps, a mother of three, has not been formally charged by the Tarrant County district attorney's office.

"Until she is actually charged or if she is actually charged by the district attorney, we won't know what we are going to do," Johnston said.
