Abbott Rolling Out His Re-election Effort

AUSTIN -- Gov. Greg Abbott is expected to announce Friday that he's running for re-election.On Wednesday, Abbott's political committee said he "will make a campaign announcement" at the historic Southern Pacific Railroad depot called Sunset Station in downtown San Antonio Friday afternoon.It will mark the fourth anniversary of the San Antonio event where he initially announced his gubernatorial candidacy.By Monday, Abbott will have to report on his latest fundraising.A relentless fundraiser, the Republican entered the year with a cash balance of $34.4 million.The new report will cover contributions made during a 12-day window in late June.Under state law, statewide elected officials and state lawmakers cannot accept donations for 30 days before a regular legislative session and for 20 days after its conclusion.  Continue reading...
