Is Rolando McClain the "Right Kind of Guy?"

Jason Garrett is fond of saying he wants the "right kind of guys" on the Dallas Cowboys.

Now, one of "his" guys has been sentenced to 18 days in jail. That guy is linebacker Rolando McClain.

A judge in Alabama found McClain guilty of misdemeanor charges from last year. He was arrested for yelling, "F--- the police" in a large crowd and was convicted of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

McClain's jail term will be delayed and he is back in Oxnard, Calif., for Cowboys training camp.

I spoke with Birmingham Herald columnist Kevin Scarbinsky on my NBC Sports Radio show and said Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is wasting his time with the former Alabama star.

"There are people in his hometown of Decatur, Alabama, that will tell you he doesn't get it and some people in the state of Alabama who will tell you he is a bad man," Scarbinsky said.

McClain retired from the NFL because of his numerous off-the-field issues, and his performance in NFL stadiums as a Raider made him a bust as a first-round draft pick.

Dallas made a trade for him with Baltimore once he decided he was going to unretire from pro football and resume his playing career.

Jones is sold on giving McClain a second chance, telling the media in Oxnard on Wednesday, "I've known a lot of successful people who quit" and "somebody thought he could play" because he was and All-American player at Alabama and Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban spoke glowingly to Garrett about his abilities.

McClain was back at training camp Friday and has an opportunity to win a job and, who knows, maybe he can turn into one "the right kind of guys" the Dallas head coach speaks about.
