Events Across North Texas Honor 9/11 Victims

Gov. Greg Abbott has ordered all flags in Texas to be flown at half-staff to remember victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Events are planned across North Texas to honor those killed 14 years ago Friday in the attacks in New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.

Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw has urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to law officers.

Collin County

  Prosper The Prosper Fire Department hosted a ceremony to pay homage to 9/11 at 9 a.m. in the pavilion at Frontier Park.

Dallas County

  Dallas A steel sculpture in the form of a cross, taken from the rubble of the World Trade Center, goes on display at Dallas Love Field.

  Dallas Nearly 1,000 volunteers will build structures and enhance facilities in the Great Trinity Forest during Entrepreneurs for North Texas' 14th annual Freedom Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at several Dallas locations.

  Mesquite The City of Mesquite hosted a 9/11 ceremony at Fire Station No. 1 at 8:30 a.m. featuring presentations by the Mesquite Fire Department and Mesquite Police Department and the display of a 15-foot steel beam salvaged from the World Trade Center.

Johnson County

  Joshua The Joshua Independent School District SD will recognize the service and sacrifice of city and county emergency personnel before Friday night's varsity football game.

Tarrant County

  Fort Worth — The Tarrant County College Police and Fire Academies hosted their fifth annual 9/11 5K Memorial Run. About 150 cadets, faculty and staff participated in the 5K and 9.11-mile runs near Marine Creek Lake in Fort Worth.

 Grapevine — The 9/11 Memorial Foundation of Texas and the Grapevine Fire Department tolled a bell at the 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial at 7:46 a.m. The flag will remain at half-staff until 7:46 p.m.
