A giant Texas Longhorns flag is unfurled before a game at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas.

Just one day before the team is to play in the Alamo Bowl, two University of Texas football players who have been implicated in a sexual assault case have been suspended from the team.

Sources within the university told KXAN-TV that backup quarterback Case McCoy and injured linebacker Jordan Hicks were sent home.

During a previously scheduled news conference Friday morning, Texas head coach Mack Brown did not identify the players by name.

"This has been reported: We had a couple young men that broke team rules last night," he said. "They have been suspended from the team, and they will be sent home. They will not be available for the game, and I will not address any more questions in that matter."

A person with knowledge of the suspensions told The Associated Press that McCoy and Hicks were sent home for violating team rules. The person told the AP that the players broke curfew.

Brown declined to say if the team has a curfew.

"You move forward. It's what you do," he said. "You have policies that you go by. And our policies are in better place right now than they were in '99, so we understand that when you have an issue, you deal with and you move forward."

According to a heavily redacted police report, a 21-year-old woman told police she believed was assaulted after inviting two men to her hotel room. She told police she had had several drinks when she invited the men to her hotel.

Additionally, police said they observed bruises on the woman's right knee and left bicep.

The woman said one of the men assaulted her while the other "just stood there and watched," the report said.

According to KENS-TV, the woman told police she met two UT players while out the night before and invited them back to her room at the Holiday Inn Riverwalk.

After talking to police, the woman was taken to a San Antonio hospital, where she was seen by a sexual assault nurse examiner, according to the police report. The two suspects also were taken to the hospital and examined by the nurse, the report says.

San Antonio police spokesman Sgt. Javier Salazer told the AP that investigators are interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence.

"It's a very meticulous process," he said. "As far as these investigations go, it's early."

Police have not identified the suspects. No charges have been filed so far.

McCoy, the brother of former Texas star and current Browns quarterback Colt McCoy, has played eight games this season, including one start. He has thrown for 722 yards and six touchdowns.

Hicks was a starter but hasn't played since the third game of the season because of a hip injury.

Texas (8-4) plays Oregon State (9-3) in Saturday's game at the Alamodome. The Longhorns' walk-through at the stadium Friday afternoon was closed to the media.
