Election Night Roundup: Incumbents Hold Strong in Most Races

On May 6, 2017, a number of local municipalities across North Texas held a general election for mayors, school board trustees, city council members and a number of props.

The races below represent a few of the local mayoral races and local props. See all the mayoral races here or click here to see every race covered.

Addison

Addison Mayor Todd Meier is out due to term limits. His challengers, Joe Chow and Blake Clemens, were locked in a very tight race all night. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Chow edged Clemens by 102 votes.

Allen

In what should surprise no one, Steve Terrell has once again won the race for mayor of Allen. Terrell has held the position since 1997.

Arlington

In Arlington, incumbent Mayor Jeff Williams seeks a second term and is holding off challenger Chris "Dobi" Dobson. Voters in Arlington considered two propositions -- Prop 1 is whether $45 million in general obligation bonds should be spent to build an Active Adult Center while Prop 2 is whether to adopt State Civil Service for the Arlington Fire Department.

Carrollton

Four candidates are looking to replace Carrollton Mayor Matthew Marchant, who is leaving the office after hitting a term limit. Marchant was first elected mayor of the city in 2011 and was reelected again in 2014.

Dallas

There are no staggered terms on the Dallas City Council, so all seats are up for reelection. Three of the more high-profile races are listed below -- see them all here.

By just over 200 votes, former City Council member Dwaine Caraway beat the woman he endorsed for his seat when he had to step down due to term limits two years ago. In the fight to represent West Dallas, incumbent Monica Alonzo is leading the District 6 battle -- she's going for a fourth term. In District 11, popular real estate blogger Candy Evans lost her uphill battle to unseat incumbent Lee Kleinman.

Euless

Euless Mayor Linda Martin is seeking reelection and is handily holding of challenger Tupou Helu Uhatafe.

Fort Worth

Betsy Price, the 44th mayor of Fort Worth, was first elected in 2011. She ran unopposed in 2015 and has easily won her fourth straight two-year term Saturday by holding off challenger Chris Nettles.

Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price won a fourth two-year term on Saturday, beating her first challenger since she became the city's leader in 2011.
Frisco

Longtime Frisco Mayor Maher Maso is wrapping up his final term due to term limits. Jeff Cheney and Bob Allen are fighting to be his replacement.  With 94 percent reporting, Cheney holds an eight point lead.

Garland

Douglas Athas, first elected mayor in 2013, has locked up his third two-year term by handily defeating challenger Leala Green by 38 percentage points.

Irving

In Irving, the mayor's seat is up for grabs after Beth Van Duyne said earlier this year she was not seeking a third term and would be joining President Donald Trump's administration. Four candidates looked to fill her seat -- and filed a few lawsuits. Currently Rick Stopfer has a sizable lead over the pack.

Keller

In Keller, Mark Mathews is stepping down after one three-year term as mayor. With both precincts reporting, Pat McGrail has edged Rick Barnes by 46 votes.

McKinney

With longtime Mayor Brian Loughmiller out due to term limits, George Fuller appears to be the new mayor of McKinney. With 59 percent of the vote, Fuller bested his challengers by 22 and 54 percentage points.

Plano

Challenger Lilly Bao gave Mayor Harry LaRosiliere a tough fight, but after a very strong showing in early voting the incumbent came out on top by 10 percentage points.

Richardson

Incumbent Mayor Paul Voelker easily won his second two-year term, holding off challenger Jared Weadon.

Watauga

We called this one early -- incumbent and longtime mayor of Watauga Hector Garcia has once again easily won reelection.
