Rash of Car Break-Ins Hits Arlington Neighborhood

A recent rash of car break-ins has one central Arlington neighborhood crying out for help. Neighbors hope home surveillance video of the crooks will lead to their arrest.

Bobbi Eeds has lived along Killian Drive in Arlington for nearly 20 years and has never had problems there. So when she recently checked her home surveillance feed and saw strangers breaking into her SUV, she was shocked.

“It’s scary,” said Eeds. “It’s an invasion of privacy.”

After her camera caught them coming back a second and third time, most recently on March 19, that shock turned into anger.

“These guys are out taking what’s rightfully ours,” said Eeds. “It’s not right.”

Thieves have targeted vehicles along her street multiple times in the past few months. They come at night, break into the vehicle, then go through the compartments and consoles inside. In some instances, they took loose change and lottery tickets that were inside the cars. Other times they took nothing, leaving a mess inside the vehicle.

“I want to know that I can walk out of my house at night and not be worried that someone is walking down the street to break into my car or possibly kick my door in,” said Ben Scheuermann, who also lives along Killian Drive.

Scheuermann and his family live across the street from Eeds. During this most recent go round, thieves broke into his pickup truck two nights in a row. He said both nights, he made sure he locked his truck before he went to bed.

“It’s very frustrating,” said Scheuermann.

They’ve reported each incident to Arlington police but worry officers won’t be able to do much unless someone comes forward with information. They hope releasing the surveillance video will lead to that.

“All we want is the public’s help,” said Eeds. “Somebody knows who these guys are. Just turn them in.”

If you recognize the men in the surveillance video or have information about these thefts, you are urged to call Arlington police.
