Mother Dead, Father Injured in Wreck with Stalled Car

A Plano mother was killed and three other people were injured when a vehicle collided with an abandoned car on U.S. Highway 75 in Richardson Thursday morning, police said.

Richardson Police Department spokesman Sgt. Kevin Perslich said someone left a Ford Focus with its hazard lights flashing in the left center lane of 75 near Campbell Road before 4 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a Toyota Corolla in flames.

Investigators said the Corolla crashed into the stalled vehicle. Shortly after, a pickup truck crashed into the Corolla and pushed it into a retaining wall.

Police said 51-year-old Wanzhen Zhou, who was in the backseat of the Corolla, was killed in the wreck. Zhou's husband, a passenger, and 25-year-old daughter, the driver, were taken to Medical Center of Plano with injuries that were not life threatening.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to Methodist Richardson Medical Center with injuries that were also not life threatening.

Perlich said officers are looking for the driver of the abandoned Ford Focus.

"We have to look at why the car was there," he said. "Were they intoxicated? Was their vehicle completely broken down? We just don't know that yet.

The northbound lanes of U.S. 75 were shut down for about an hour before being reopened at about 5 a.m.
