Man Attacks, Robs 90-Year-Old Woman

Denton police need help identifying man in surveillance footage from nearby hotel

Denton police are looking for a man who assaulted and robbed a 90-year-old woman at an assisted living center early Saturday morning.

Police said the man came into Elaine Truitt's apartment at the Dogwood Estates Assisted Living Center, attacked her and stole two televisions and  computer.

"He got up on top of the bed covers with his knees over my legs and held my arms back and started smothering me with a little pillow," Truitt said.

Both of Truitt's arms are covered in bandages. The man tore her skin when he pinned her against her bed.

"It is a low-crime area," detective Keith Martin said. "You are at a retirement home, and our victim is 90 years old. It takes a special kind of evil for a person to do this."

Truitt said the man entered her room through an unlocked door at about 3:30 a.m.

"I said, 'What would your mother think about you and what you are doing?'" she said.

Denton police are asking for help in identifying a man matching the description of the attacker who was seen in surveillance video from a nearby hotel. Police said the man in the video attempted to sell drugs at the hotel and break into rooms before he ran off.

"We have no way of knowing if he is local or in the Metroplex area or if he is from out of state and Denton is where he stopped for the night," Martin said.

"I want him to be caught and put away," Truitt said. "He is not good for society and never will be."

Police said the person of interest is believed to be driving a black, four-door Chevrolet Impala with dark tinted windows.
