Late Night Visitors Knocking on Doors in Hurst

Police in Hurst are warning residents to be on guard after receiving reports of strangers knocking on front doors late at night, asking for help.

According to a police spokesman, residents have reported incidents involving people knocking on residential doors late at night in an attempt to get into homes.

For example, police said the unknown visitor may say he or she is trying to hide from an attacker. Another excuse has a man saying his pregnant wife is in the car, and they need money for gas.

If this happens to you, police say to do the following:

• Tell the visitor you will not open the door;
• Tell the visitor your husband or wife will call 911. This will make them think that you're not alone.
• Tell the visitor police are on the way to help
• Call 911 immediately and do not open the door until instructed by someone you can identify as an officer.
