Officials with the Grand Prairie Police Department said the shooting took place in Arlington after the man led officers on a chase into the neighboring city.

Police said the chase started at about 7:30 a.m. after an officer attempted to stop the driver for a minor traffic violation.

During the chase, police said, the driver stopped and let a passenger out of the vehicle. The passenger put his hands in the air and said he had nothing to do with the driver as the man sped away.

Arlington police confirmed to NBC 5 their officers joined the pursuit when it entered the city limits, but that at the time they didn't know why the driver was being chased.

Grand Prairie police said the driver stopped his red sedan along Cowboys Way, directly south of AT&T Stadium, and bailed out of the vehicle.

The man ran south through a small grove of trees and into the Claremont Apartments where he was stopped by a Grand Prairie officer.

The officer attempted to use his stun gun to subdue the man, but lost it in a struggle. The officer then pulled out his handgun and shot the man at least one time.

The man, whose identity has not been released, has injuries that are not considered life threatening; the officer, despite the struggle, was not injured.

The investigation into the chase and shooting is ongoing, police said.
