Couple Survives RV Flip in Hunt County Storm

The love story of Ronnie and Carmine Booze only began four years ago.

โ€œRonnie and I have each other and we love each other and we both got a second chance at marriage,โ€ Carmine said.

The single mother met the widower and they retired in an RV on Lake Tawakoni. The couple moved to a spot by the water back in April and had been working to make it their home ever since.

Their story got a wild chapter in the early morning hours on Sunday.

โ€œSitting in bed, watching the lightning show because the lightning was intense,โ€ said Ronnie Booze, who was lying awake in the Hunt County storm. โ€œWe heard a loud roar. Everything was just going up into the air.โ€

โ€œI looked at my husband and I said I think we're in trouble, I think we're in trouble,โ€ said his wife.

The strong winds from the storm flipped their RV, trapping the pair.

โ€œAll of the cabinets out of the nightstand was falling on top of me, hit me in the headโ€ Ronnie said.

Within a half hour, one neighbor had showed up with flashlight. Another had called 911.

Bruised, but able to walk, the couple made it out okay. Their property, not so much. In addition to their toppled home, their car was damaged. All the landscaping and planting they did was lost too.

โ€œWe've got cannas planted all down the other side.. They're smashed to pieces now,โ€ he said.

Wife Carmine, said a look at the destruction in morning light nearly brought her to tears.

โ€œI stayed calm and collected until this morning and then when I saw it.. Then it was pretty upsetting,โ€ she said.

As a former nurse, she knows they're lucky. As a quadruple bypass survivor, he knows that too.

"She said what are we gonna do? I said we're gonna put one foot in front of the other one and we're gonna keep going,โ€ said Ronnie Booze.

It seems even a home on top of a car, can't spoil their life view.

โ€œYou're the best. I love you. I don't need anything as long as I got him, I promise,โ€ she said, kissing her husband.

โ€œI'm her hero,โ€ he said.

The pair also expressed their thanks to everyone who helped them at Sunset Resort, where they live. For now, the couple is staying on site at a nearby cabin.
