Another Robbery Could Be Linked to String of Purse Thefts

Dallas police are investigating whether or not a serial robber who has targeted women in downtown Dallas has struck again.

Stephanie Roethlisberger and a friend were robbed at gunpoint early Friday morning while walking to their car in the State Thomas neighborhood, just north of downtown.

“I just froze, froze, and put my hands up and let him take whatever he wanted,” she said.

Roethlisberger, 24, said the robber appeared at the passenger's side window with a silver pistol in his hand and demanded their purses.

“He had the gun in her face, threatened to shoot her, and that's when we knew it was for real," Roethlisberger said.

Police said they believe the same man robbed four other women this week in separate incidents.

A 63-year-old woman was shot in the head Thursday morning when she refused to hand over her purse to an armed robber.

“He said, ’I’ll shoot you,’ and I said, ‘Well, shoot me,’ and he pulled that gun out of his pocket and shot me," Linda Self said.

Downtown security cameras show the man just minutes before the attack.

“I probably, you know, was wrong in not giving him my purse,” she said.

Self is expected to make a full recovery, but the bullet took a chunk out of her forehead.

She is the only victim who has resisted the robber’s demands and the only one who has been hurt.

“Just give them your stuff,” Roethlisberger said. “It’s not worth your life whatsoever.”

There is a $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
