Former Broncos defensive end Robert Ayers, who reportedly drew some interest from the Dallas Cowboys in free agency, is headed to the rival New York Giants.
Ayers, 28, and the Giants agreed to a two-year deal on Wednesday. He will replace Justin Tuck--who left for the Oakland Raiders in free agency just over two weeks ago--in the Giants’ defensive line rotation and will wear Tuck’s old No. 91.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for me, coming to a great organization like this,” Ayers said in a statement, per the New York Daily News. “They hate losing and they’re always about getting better and preparing and I’ve heard nothing but good things about the general manager and the owners, the coaches. Everyone speaks highly of them across the league.”
The University of Tennessee product Ayers comes to the Giants after five seasons with the Broncos. During the Broncos Super Bowl run in 2013, Ayers played in 15 games (starting three) and posted 29 tackles, 5.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
