As a member of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009, Donovan McNabb drew the ire of the Philly faithful when he strummed an air guitar in the tunnel at Cowboys Stadium before taking the field for the wild card game. Of course, after his pre-game jig, things got a bit less jovial for McNabb, as his Eagles were whipped 34-14 by their hated rivals from Dallas.
The dance itself, a sort of Hulk Hogan-esque air guitar solo punctuated with a slap to the side of a field-level suite, took on a life of its own, after the fact. It was a favorite topic among the local media, and derided by Philly fans and critics alike in the subsequent weeks.
On Sunday night, McNabb will face the Cowboys for the first time since that night. So, will we be seeing an encore performance?
“I may bring the drums out,” McNabb said, per the Dallas Morning News. “Anything I do I guess is a big story, huh? It's something that we have been doing all year. We had our formal band. So it was a way for us to kind of have fun and relax and then go out and play.
“Obviously if we would've won that game, people would've been looking for the air guitar and maybe I would've had my own little Playstation game.”
