All lanes of Interstate 45 in Hutchins have reopened after a fiery tanker crash shut down the highway early Sunday morning.

Jason Evans, with Dallas Fire-Rescue, said an 18-wheeler carrying approximately 8,500 gallons of fuel caught fire at about 6 a.m. near Wintergreen Road.

The driver was able to get out before the big-rig was fully engulfed in flames and no injuries were reported.

A Texas Department of Transportation camera in the area showed a wall of flames and thick black smoke filling the air. Crews on the scene decided to allow the fire to burn itself out, which took several hours.

At about 9 a.m. the fire was out and cleanup began. About an hour later the northbound lanes of I-45 re-opened and by noon one southbound lane was getting by.

Authorities said by Monday morning they expected two lanes on the southbound side to be open, though an exact time was not specified.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
