Couponing 101

Surviving the Stores offers classes in DFW

Do you know exactly how much the items in your cart cost before and after coupons and discounts? If not, you’re doing it wrong.

Surviving the Stores aims to teach shoppers the secrets to big savings. We are not talking about getting $.20 cents off of toothpaste. We are talking about never paying for toothpaste again.

There are three remaining couponing classes around the Metroplex to teach you the tricks of the trade.

The classes are $20 at the door, or $15 with the coupon code “SAVES” online. Register here.

Miss Thursday's class in Arlington? There are classes in May that you can sign up for in Fort Worth, Garland/Dallas, and Grapevine.

For more tips on saving money at the store, watch Amy Yates-Garmatz on NBC during the 4 p.m. newscast on Friday. You can also check out her Penny Pinching blog.

Just how effective are these tips and tricks? Amy reports that her monthly grocery budget is about $100, unless there is a good sale on meat and she decides to buy in bulk.

There is a closet in her house with a post-apocalypse supply of toothpaste, hair products, and other hygiene necessities that she received at no cost or for next-to-nothing as a result of careful coupon planning. She will never have to pay for shampoo again.
