In a largely disappointing dress rehearsal game on Saturday night, Cowboys rookie cornerback Tyler Patmon had something of a coming out party, recording two interceptions (including a pick-six) and forcing a fumble.
“It just shows that I’m going to take advantage of my opportunities,” Patmon told the team's official website. “God blessed me with a great opportunity, the coaches trusted me enough to get in and obviously I came up and made some plays.”
Patmon got his big night started on Miami’s second possession of the game, jarring the ball from tight end Dion Sims to kill a promising drive. He killed another promising drive for the Dolphins in the third quarter, when he intercepted Miami starter Ryan Tannehill at the Cowboys’ nine-yard line.
The Oklahoma State product’s biggest moment came in the fourth though when he jumped a route, intercepted backup Matt Moore and strode into the end zone for the touchdown.
It was an impressive night, to be sure. But the undrafted and unheralded Patmon isn’t taking anything for granted.
“No--I’ve got to keep going,” he said. “I made a couple mistakes out there that I’ve got to improve on and just keep pushing.”
