Rangers Load Up Top 101 List

The Texas Rangers parted with a few top-notch prospects back in July when they acquired starting pitcher Cole Hamels from the Phillies, yet they still loaded up the most recent Baseball Prospectus Top 101 list, a ranking of the top 101 prospects in all of baseball.

Five Rangers prospects landed on the list, including three in the top 15 — a most impressive number.

Outfield prospect Nomar Mazara led the Rangers contingent, checking in at No. 5 on the list, while slugging third baseman Joey Gallo was a few spots back at No. 8. Outfielder Lewis Brinson was No. 15 on the list.

That power trio was followed by pitchers Dillon Tate and Luis Ortiz, the team's past two No. 1 draft picks, at Nos. 59 and 68, respectively.

Just imagine if the Rangers didn't trade for Hamels — I know, I don't want to either — and the Rangers would look even more impressive on this list as the three big names the Rangers gave up to the Phillies all landed on the list in Nick Williams (25), Jake Thompson (34) and Jorge Alfaro (70).
