Potential Target: Bartolo Colon

In an ongoing series, we'll take a look at possible free-agent and trade targets for the Texas Rangers this winter.

Target: Bartolo Colon, RHP

2015 stats: 14-13 record, 4.16 ERA, 194 2/3 innings pitched, 1.238 WHIP, 1.1 walks per nine innings (led National League).

The Rangers are looking to add a starting pitcher this winter, whether it's via free agency or trade, and it'd be preferable if it was a right hander given their lefty-heavy rotation with Cole Hamels, Derek Holland and Martin Perez.

Colon is no superstar anymore, but he's a guy who's hit in the neighborhood of the 200-inning mark the past two years in his early 40s and he's shown no real signs of slowing down.

The Rangers let Yovani Gallardo walk away, and Colon wouldn't match Gallardo's production most likely, especially not after two years in the pitcher-friendly NL, but he'd come at a much cheaper price than Gallardo and at his advanced age — he'll be 43 in May — could probably be had for a one-year contract.
