Cowboys owner Jerry Jones knows Dez Bryant far too well to have to wonder if he’s been disappointed by his 2015 season.
As you probably remember, Bryant held out of the team’s offseason program in hopes of landing a long-term deal over the summer. It worked, and he got a five-year, $70 million extension in July. The good feelings brought on by the holdout ending didn’t last long, though.
Bryant was limited in training camp, never played in the preseason and suffered a fractured bone in his foot in the season opening win over the Giants. He missed five games with that injury, but since returning, he hasn’t looked like the Dez that had 16 touchdowns a year ago. In nine games this year, Bryant has three touchdown catches, and a single, solitary 100-yard performance.
So yeah, that sounds pretty disappointing.
"Yes, it has. There’s no doubt it’s been disappointing for Dez,” Jones told 105.3-FM The Fan on Tuesday, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “He’s got very high expectations and a very high bar for what he needs to be doing to help win ballgames. It certainly is (disappointing), we’ve talked ad nauseam at maybe why he’s not had the kinda year we all expected. We all know that we’ve said it, but his repetition on the practice field, we like to have all of the players, the numbers of repetitions they get directly correlates to how good a game he has. That hasn’t been what it should be, and then the fact that we’ve had to move around with the quarterbacks, again, the fact that [Tony] Romo hadn’t been out there impacted his season."
