Spurs' Loss Could Be Mavs' Gain

Bitter? Me? You betcha.

After a frustrating, disappointing end to the Mavs’ season, I’m looking for a sliver lining in the NBA Playoffs. Something to take the sting out of Dallas’ kerplunk. Maybe even, sure, another team’s misery to chuckle at.

And no better team than the Spurs.

Last year San Antonio survived a first-round Game 7 by beating the Mavs at home. But this year if they’re to defend their title they’ll have to win a first-round Game 7 on the road as Thursday night they shockingly lost a close-out game to the Clippers in San Antonio.

Tony Parker looks like he’s finally lost a step. Manu Ginobli has no lift. Tim Duncan is still Tim Duncan, just not as consistently. If it weren’t for Boris Diaw and Marco Belinelli they would have been blown out of their Game 6 loss. As is, they face a Game 7 on the road against a younger – dare I say hungrier? – and more athletic Clippers’ team.

I'm as tired of the Mavs getting eliminated early as I'm watching their main rivals lift five championship trophies.

Is it sour grapes? Absolutely. But nothing would soothe our Mavs’ hurt feelings right about now better than the Spurs also not making it out of the first round.
