North Texas Wins Third Straight Game

Eric Tramiel posted his first double-double of the season to lead the North Texas men’s basketball team to a 69-60 victory on Saturday night at the Super Pit.

The Mean Green has won its third straight game and improves to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in the Sun Belt. The Owls fall to 4-15 and 0-7 in the conference and trail in the series, 2-1.

Tramiel scored 19 points, his second-highest point total of the season, on 6-of-13 shooting from the field. He also made a personal-best seven free throws and pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds.

After FAU tied the game at 47-47 midway through the second half, North Texas went on a 10-0 run to take control of the game. The Owls were hot at the start of the second half, going on a 23-14 run to tie the game at 47-47. FAU then cooled off, scoring 13 points in the final 10 minutes of play.

Collin Dennis and Dominique Johnson joined  Tramiel in double figures with 15 and 10 points, respectively. The Mean Green shot 40.4 percent from the field in the game but hit 11-of-20 shots in the second half.

After exchanging leads in the opening minutes of the game, NT went on a 9-2 run to take a 27-18 lead. The Mean Green held the Owls scoreless for five minutes during that stretch. FAU scored only six points in the final 10 minutes of the first half.

Tramiel was key in the first half, scoring 14 points, including six free throws.

North Texas returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 22 at FIU at 6 pm.
