The Dallas Cowboys are getting a heck of a deal on All-Pro left tackle Tyron Smith, according to NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk.
With three other offensive tackles signing new contracts or contract extensions in 2018 that put their annual salaries in the neighborhood of $15 million a year, the Cowboys will pay Smith an average of $12.2 million a year over the final six years of his deal.
NBC Sports' Peter King noted in his Monday column, Football Morning in America, that Smith is rated higher than Taylor Lewan, Jake Matthews and Nate Solder - the three tackles who signed big contracts - over the last three seasons, according to Pro Football Focus.
Solder will earn the highest annual average salary of the three, after he left New England to sign a four-year, $62 million contract with the New York Giants in March.
Lewan and Matthews each signed their contracts Friday.
Lewan got a five-year, $80 million dollar deal from Tennessee, while Atlanta gave Matthews $75 million over five years.
Pro Football Focus does not rank Lewan, Matthews or Solder among the NFL's top 10 offensive tackles over the last three years. Smith is fifth.
