More Signs of the Decline of the Department Store

If you think about Craftsman tools, you likely think about Sears, where they were sold, with images of your father repairing things in the family garage.

These days, dads "go to" spot isn’t as strong as it was back then.

Stanley Black & Decker will own Craftsman now, after paying Sears $525 million for that iconic brand.

It is part of the changing face of America. Sears, Macy's, the iconic retail giants in this nation are disappearing.

This year, Sears and K-Mart are closing 150 stores.

Macy's is laying off 10,000 people and closing 100 stores including some here in North Texas.

We're still shopping, though.

Americans spent almost $2 billion over the holidays with online retailer Amazon.

"I think people have more choice on how to spend an hour of their day. They can get their hair blown, they can go to the gym, they can go to a coffee bar," said Dane Telsey, a retail analyst.

While we gain that time, we lose some of those icons that our part of our past.
