A television set abandoned on beside an apartment complex in downtown Waco drew a full-scale response from the local bomb squad who spent hours checking it for explosives.
Tenants of the Austin Arms Apartments called police to report a suspicious device sitting feet away. Police Commander Melvin Roseborough said it looked suspicious to residents and residents, so the McLennan County bomb squad was summoned.
Austin Avenue was closed between 13th and 14th streets for 3½ hours while heavily armored officers used robotic and X-ray technology to examine the box in detail from different angles.
They finally decided it was junk and hauled it away, but Roseborough says investigators want to know who left the TV there and why.
