Texas Connects Us: Hurst Encourages Kindness Campaign

The city of Hurst is encouraging residents to share simple acts of kindness.

City leaders are asking residents snap photos and share kind acts on social media with the hashtag #HurstHearts.

"Just about a year ago during election season, our communications department noticed in their own personal news feeds that there was so much negativity, so we wanted to intentionally spread stories of kindness," said Kara McKinney, with the city of Hurst.

Last week, the city launched a video featuring community leaders, encouraging others to create a chain reaction of kindness. Since then, residents have posted photos sharing good deeds online.

The campaign inspired resident Jessica Martin and her nieces.

"I'm keeping my nieces this week, and I told them that we are going to visit every park in the city of Hurst. We're going to pick up a sack full of trash and then we can play," Martin said.

The city hopes the online kindness campaign will help people see the good is always there and it needs to be recognized.

"You will see that you really enjoy giving back to the community and making it a better place for all of us to live," Martin said.
