Staying Fit And Safe During Hot Summer Workouts

With near record highs across the Dallas-Fort Worth metro, air conditioning is on the minds of most.

However, there some tweaks you can make to your workouts if you insist taking your fitness outdoors.

Personal trainer Debi Lofstrand suggests boosting your salt and water intake.

Also, take a partner so you both can monitor each other for signs of heat exhaustion.

She also says to slow down. You can actually burn more calories in the heat.

"Start by eating fruits and veggies that are hydrating, like carrots, cucumbers, watermelon and strawberries, fruits that are in season. Remain flexible. You're going to want do some training inside and take it outside, for a like a 10 minute lap around the block, go back inside and then go back outside again. Mix it up a little bit," says Lofstrand.
