Records show a lead police investigator in a January drug raid on a Houston home that left two residents dead has previously been involved in multiple shootings, received written reprimands and faced several lawsuits.

The Houston Chronicle cites internal police records and court documents in reporting that officer Gerald Goines has received glowing reviews despite repeated instances of questionable behavior and decisions.

Police Chief Art Acevedo said Friday that Goines lied in an affidavit justifying the Jan. 28 raid on the home that also left Goines and three other officers with gunshot wounds. Goines remains hospitalized.
