Collin County leaders see potential for growth with the official completion of the Sam Rayburn Tollway along Highway 121.
Collin County Judge Keith Self said the tollway, which also passes through Denton and Dallas counties, is a major artery for Collin County.
"The Sam Rayburn Tollway, to include this interchange, really opens up the heart of Collin County," he said.
The latest news from around North Texas.
Accessible transportation can provide the lifeblood of job creation and population growth, Self said.
"This is the highway of today and the highway of the future," he said.
North Texas Tollway Authority Chairman Kenneth Barr said the completed toll road is a "real step forward."
Spanning 26 miles along State Highway 121, it is a far cry from the road's recent past.
"Ten years ago, State Highway 121 was two lanes," Self said.
The NTTA is finishing up final steps for the interchange between the Dallas North Tollway and the Sam Rayburn, something Barr said would only increase efficiency for drivers.
"It makes the flow of traffic a whole lot better and faster," he said. "It cuts down on idling."
