Rainy Forecast Forces Graduation Ceremony Inside

Rain in Thursday's forecast is causing a lot of disappointment in Midlothian, where the Midlothian High School graduation has been moved indoors.

"I feel really bad for everyone, and it's just truly heartbreaking," said Angelina De Los Santos, one of 494 seniors set to graduate from Midlothian High School.

The 2016 graduation ceremony was scheduled Thursday night at Midlothian's Multipurpose Stadium, which has enough permanent seats for 8,000 people.

But the foreboding forecast forced administrators to move the ceremony indoors, to the much smaller high school gym.

"We're willing to sit out there and get soaked," De Los Santos' mother, Blanca Bailey. "We're not there to look good, we're there to watch her graduate, to walk across the stage."

MHS Arena has room for just 3,000 spectators, so each senior will receive just seven tickets for family and friends – five for the arena itself, and two for the MHS Auditorium, where guests will watch the ceremony on a livestream.

"It's really hard," said De Los Santos. "There are so many people who have been there for me throughout this whole thing, and it's just really hard."

Her family and others now have to choose who will attend.

"I want my whole family to see me graduate," said De Los Santos. "It's just a big deal to me."

Based on the forecast, the Allen Independent School District will decide Friday morning whether to delay the outdoor graduation scheduled for its students that night at Eagle Stadium.

The ceremony there could be pushed back to Saturday or even Sunday.
