SMU Rape Suspect Now Suspected in Grand Prairie Assault

A 23-year-old man suspected of sexual assaults at Navarro College and Southern Methodist University is now facing a third charge for a sexual assault near a Grand Prairie elementary school.

Grand Prairie Police Department officials said they issued an arrest warrant for Torey Jamal Harris, 23, in connection with an April 11 sexual assault that took place between two trash bins near Barbara Bush Elementary School.

According to police, a woman exercising was grabbed from behind, forced between the trash bins and sexually assaulted on the 500 block of East Springdale Lane.

Grand Prairie police revealed no information about the victim, but said the attack had nothing to do with the school.

As police in Grand Prairie conducted their investigation, Navarro County authorities arrested Harris in connection with sexual assaults near the campuses of Navarro College and SMU that took place in September.

Grand Prairie detectives said they thought there might be a connection to their case, so they requested a sample of Harris' DNA. After comparing it to DNA evidence taken from their crime scene, police confirmed it as a match.

Harris remains in custody in the Navarro County Jail on $1 million bond and faces three charges of aggravated sexual assault.
